So I thought I might just post it on here so more of you can have access to this info. It all started when my mate who was breaking a 407 gave me an RT3 magneti marelli together with the screen. I really liked the idea of me having it in my car instead of the boring standard orange screen.
Since 1994 - innovation in formula1: magneti marelli is a leader in innovation for formula 1 races with the introduction of the semi-automatic transmission, intelligent steering wheel, engine and vehicle control systems, advanced telemetry and kers.
I started my research by asking some car electricians, in car entertainment specialists on how to do so.but I got no help. Instead they all told me it’s impossible.
But after more than a years time I have finally got it running and now I want to share it with all the fanatics that want to do the same. So first I will list all the components you need to get the car running. But before you decide to carry out such an operation you need to know that the sat nav will not work unless you have ABS in your carotherwise the car thinks you are stationary and then the only difference you have is the colour screen. RT3 components: 1.Magneti marelli Head unit Fig1 and Fig1a.several types depending on the model 307,407, 607 and so on when choosing a unit you need to ensure it will fit your dash. So if u wish to install it in a 206 for example you will need an RT3 from a 307. Colour screen Fig2- the screen in a RT3 is different to a RT4.
The screen you want needs to have a optical cable connector. Head unit fan Fig3. Note that depending on the model you have several types of fans. A 607 has a single fan, a 307 and 407 have a double fan and the mountings are different (pretty important) 4. Optical cable-fig 4. This connects the head unit to the screen and sends the information (crucial) Part number:6563 S0 costs about 17 pounds.
Microphone.Fig 5 this you will need in order to make phone calls through the GSM in the unit Part number: 6563.HS don’t know the price 6 antenna, - this I found to be the most complicated bit during the installation. There are two types of those: A) GSM/GPS/FM antenna.
Fig6 This one is all in one and by getting this one you will be able to get network for your phone, get GPS signal and the radio will work. You will only need a longer connectror to connect it with the unit Fig7. You get this antenna in the 307, 607, 807 this antenna will also need a nut to fix it in position. This antenna can be also installed in a 407 rather than antenna B described below. Part numbers: 6561.R9, and 6562.N3 B) The installation is a bit different in a 407 as the antenna they used has only two functions GSM/GPS Fig8this antenna will also need a longer connector Fig9. Now in order to make the radio work you need to get yourself a diversity unit Fig10, a cable to connect the diversity to the radio Fig10a.
Note that the diversity unit is pretty expensive and if I had to install it in my car I would get myself antenna A rather than B this however involves driliing a hole in the roof for the antenna. At the very end you will need the unit to be decoded i.e the vin number recorded in the radio needs to be matched with the chasis number. Once more this varies from unit to unit. But if you go to a garage with a Peugeot program they will sort it out for you pretty cheap. In the case of a 407 you will also need a plastic surround for the screen Fig11.
You will need to order some of the parts from a Peugeot garage. They ask you for your chassis number however if you nice to them and ask for help they will browse through the cars diagrams to find you the matching part.
Installation In order to install the System you will need to make a couple of amendments (welding Isolation). If you have a standard RD3 connector there will be more work to do. If you already have a RT3 connector in your car the job will be much easier.
For more info look Fig12 I will only describe how to connect a unit in a car which already has a RT3 connector.if you wish to connect the sat nav in a car with standard RT3 then I will describe how to do so later. Connection of the head unit to the screen Over here you will need a needle to separate the wires form the main plug Basically if you look at Fig12 (RT3) you will need to connect the wires in this order RT3 Colour screen A09. 2 Plus the Optical cable.
All other pins are used for other video sources such as a rear view camera, Video connectors form the glove box b2. Connection of the microphone/b Only two pins are needed to connect the microphone. RT3 Microphone B03 Microphone –ve (black) B09 microphone +ve (red) The microphone needs to run to the roof area near the light so you will need to extend the wiring. Connection of the fan RT3 Fan B01 -ve fan (black) B07. +ve fan (red) 4. Now you need to connect the antenna Antenna B) If you have the triple bands antenna (A) then you simply need to run it behind the dash and trim to the rear of the car where you drill a hole in the centre wherever you think the antenna will reachensure it will reach cz otherwise you will end up with a hole in the roof.
Antenna B) first of all you will need to connect the GPS/GSM antenna. You need to run it behind the dash to the rear view mirror area (just above it). The diversity unit (fig.10) needs to be connected to the old white and gray antenna cables. And the new cable ( fig 10a) connects the diversity unit to the radio unit. Now you need to put it all together in your car and decode the radio.and enjoy! It seems like loads of work but if you plan it well it can be done in 3-4 hours.
